A technology outage took out radar and communications for Newark Liberty International Airport’s controllers briefly Friday morning, the second such breakdown in two weeks at a heavily trafficked U.S.

Newark has had disruptions since April 28, when controllers lost contact and couldn't guide planes for upwards of 30 seconds.

When the agency approved moving Newark air traffic controllers to Philadelphia, it said the odds of a dangerous communications breakdown was about 1 in 11 million.
