The UK Government has “surrendered” fishing in its new deal with the European Union, Scottish First Minister John Swinney said as he insisted his Government was not consulted about the agreement.

He was arrested by immigration enforcement officers after arriving on a small boat in Kent, Canterbury Crown Court heard.

The insects and their larvae, which feed on the foliage of potatoes and other plants, can spread quickly and wipe out crops, the TV presenter said.

Frederick Doe, 37, also known as Frederick Sines, had been found guilty by a jury at Oxford Crown Court of conspiracy to transfer criminal property.

Constance Marten, 38, and Mark Gordon, 50, are on trial charged with the manslaughter of their baby daughter Victoria.
