As crews survey the damage from a powerful storm that ripped through St. Louis on Friday, at least five people are dead and 38 were injured city-wide, authorities said Saturday.

At least five people have died and more than 5,000 buildings were damaged after a tornado tore through St Louis in Missouri. The tornado swept along a major road, tearing roofs off houses, uprooting trees and knocking down power lines on Friday evening.

The twister touched down in Atlantic County with winds of 65 to 75 mph. Storms ripped down trees and flooded roads.

Severe weather threats include damaging winds, very large hail, and tornadoes. Locally heavy rain may also result in flash flooding.

An EF-2 tornado touched down in New Richmond, Wisconsin, during Thursday evening's severe storms, the National Weather Service says. There were more than a dozen tornado warnings and multiple observed tornadoes across Minnesota and Wisconsin.
